Gateway Village Promenade

Connecting pathways and an open courtyard form the heart of a fifteen-acre, mixed-use complex that transformed a neglected brownfield site and became a catalyst for urban revitalization to the west of Charlotte’s main downtown Corridor. The Promenade unites the project’s buildings, garden plazas, paths and open-air atria with a public gathering space and venue for civic events such as festivals, charity fundraisers, and concerts. The design’s focus on the relationship between architecture and open spaces has strengthened neighborhood connections and shaped a collective civic identity. Yet in this dynamic convergence of building form and open space, the design ensures the confidential needs of a secured banking technology center tenant while creating an open, inviting, highly accessible public space.
