Research Triangle Park Guiding Principles

The RTP Park Center Guiding Principles planning document furthers the original vision of Research Triangle Park (RTP) founders, who sought to shape a place where research communities could come together and invent the future. It creates a foundational “spirit book” that defines objectives for architects, designers, developers, residents and tenants as they shape future RTP building projects on the 100-acre campus. The document is designed to bring definition to the process of creating spaces that foster and further a future of innovation and technological progress and bring employment and educational opportunities to the area. It provides a design framework—more a defining mind-set than set of standards—to aid in the over-laying of individuality, identity and character for businesses and research enterprises. Much like time allows the creation of ancient cities, the Guiding Principles reflects a planning thought process intended to serve multiple authors and to allow individual expression over time within a larger whole.
