Downtown South Central Office
Raleigh, North Carolina
The Central Office will be the heart of Downtown South’s new walkable mixed-use district, with a generous walk-through lobby, a terraced pedestrian-only garden paseo along the north side of the building, and a variety of retail and dining spaces with many opportunities for cafe-style outdoor eating and gathering. Located right on Centerline Street, the new district’s primary avenue, Central Office will have close connections to adjacent residences, hotels, retail areas, parks, a new entertainment venue and direct access points on Raleigh’s Walnut Creek greenway trail.
The all-wood structure of the building’s office levels makes the Central Office one of the Triangle area’s first buildings to incorporate modern mass timber floors and columns as a renewable alternative to steel or concrete. The timber structure offers benefits by sequestering CO2 and reducing the embodied carbon of the building. Natural wood-grain ceilings and accents bring warmth throughout the office spaces. Panoramic ten-foot-tall windows offer ample daylighting and expansive views of nature. Other amenities specifically designed to encourage physical and mental wellness include access to multiple outdoor terraces on every level, a bicycle lobby with shower and changing rooms, shared conference and gathering spaces and direct connection to Downtown Raleigh and surrounding areas by I-40 and Rt. 70.
