Ian’s experience combines a background in the arts and furniture design with an interest in construction details and technology-based thinking. His long-term focus has been on how objects go together, whether through model-making or hands-on building. Ian’s skills and creativity in design, documentation and construction detailing bring valued capabilities to Duda|Paine’s studio culture.
Ian’s interest in how creativity improves people’s everyday lives fuels his approach to architecture, design and construction. A maker at heart, Ian shares his expertise in 3D-printing and laser-cutting by training his studio colleagues. He enjoys designing and creating anything from large scale office towers to small scale furniture pieces using traditional and contemporary fabrication processes. Ian believes almost anything imagined can be built with the proper knowledge of constructability, material properties and detailing.
