Nicholas Hales


Nicholas is a highly collaborative member of Duda|Paine’s studio culture, with an interest in building communities both among his peers and for clients and users. Nicholas received Bachelor of Environmental Design and Bachelor of Architecture degrees from North Carolina State University. His Duda|Paine project experience includes mixed-use urban projects and office complexes.


Favorite Duda|Paine project?

Talley Student Union, because it occupies the heart of NC State’s campus and serves as a crossroads for the many students, interests and cultures represented at the University. Talley’s organization and its spatial qualities promote and encourage interaction between them all.


What community organizations are you involved in?

Habitat for Humanity, Bike and Build


Anything else you’d like to share?

Over the summer after graduating from NC State, I rode my bicycle across the United States to raise money for affordable housing efforts throughout the country with an organization called Bike and Build. The experience had a profound impact on how I see design, community and the role I can play in contributing to and helping to improve the lives of others.
