Frost Bank Tower
Austin, Texas
Frost Bank Tower, with its multi-layered glass crown, presents an iconic landmark in the Austin skyline. Design for the urban site uses graduated massing to rise 33-stories from am 11-story rectangular base clad in a buff-colored limestone, which reflects the context and provides a stately aesthetic for parking levels. The entry’s two-story covered arcade expands the lobby with an all-glass window wall separating interior and exterior spaces. Above the limestone base, the tapered massing of vision and spandrel glass rises to culminate in a layer of planes that fold inward to create a translucent pyramidal crown. The low E-glass-clad tower changes hue and mood according to the quality of daylight. By night, the tower and its crown are a beacon in Austin’s skyline.
