American Tobacco Master Plan, 1997 + 2012
Durham, North Carolina
The 1997 master planning effort centered on rehabilitation and revitalization of the underutilized and neglected American Tobacco Factory and Warehouse into offices, housing, retail and parking around a central common. The 2012 effort transformed a site beside the adjacent Durham Bulls Baseball Park and DPAC (Durham Performing Arts Center) into a campus with a YMCA, public green space, biking trails and restaurants. Development of this vital core for the City of Durham has grown to include additional residential units, offices, retail and dining venues planned in these early efforts.
