IKON Tower
Monterrey, Mexico
Monterrey, the third most populous city and the highest GDP in Mexico, is experiencing an architectural renaissance, with more than 45 skyscrapers over 100 meters tall developed in the last several years. This diverse and competitive architectural environment creates opportunities for distinctive geometry and place-making innovation. The design strategy was to devise a profoundly simple, pure form that would express the region’s optimistic spirit. At the ground-level, gardens, plazas, retail shops and restaurants inspire interaction between the development’s public and private populations. Plazas and green terraces promote a sense of place for pedestrians.
Ikon Tower is positioned on one of the city’s most important highways. Its arch-shaped floorplate produces a sculpted form that maximizes the impression of movement to the thousands passing by. The building’s offset elevator core and resulting open, light-filled office levels allow occupants maximum views and flexibility for workplace design. A series of sky gardens are stacked vertically at every third floor. These elevated gardens bring the natural and organic topography that surrounds Monterrey into the interior experience.
