Architect

Chris Bitsas brings a wide range of skills and expertise, having worked on projects in all phases from master planning and design through construction documentation. Skilled at both design ideation and pragmatic implementation, Chris uses a variety of mediums including skilled craftsmanship of physical models and hand sketching, professional graphics, and rendering software.

Soon after taking a drafting class in high school, Chris realized he wanted to pursue a career in architecture. He participated in a summer design program at NC State University before attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. Chris enjoyed shaping cities at Duda|Paine through large-scale commercial projects like Pier 1 Imports Headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, Terminus 100 in Atlanta and Palisades West in Austin. During his work on The Quiet Room in Duke’s Cancer Center, Chris created a calming oasis for patients, family and staff facing life-changing issues.

For the past ten years, Chris’s faith led him to serve as Creative Director for the Grace Church of Chapel Hill, where he cultivated positive experiences for newcomers and members alike. He renovated and expanded the Worship Center, implemented new technology and helped increase membership from 400 to 1,500 members. During his free time, Chris used an industrial robot to create intricate screens inspired by traditional African tapestries for the NC Museum of Art and the African American History Museum in Washington DC.

At Duda|Paine, Chris looks forward to making connections between the built environment and the way a space makes people feel by using healthy materials and a sustainable framework for design.
