Design for movement and athletics emerged from patterns of daily circulation for this fitness facility. Paths into, within and beyond the building are framed and separated in an interplay of vertical and horizontal wood screening that engages users and invites activity. Marked by an eighteen-foot vertical screen of harvested pine, the entry portico provides direct access to both indoor and outdoor amenities. A clearly articulated circulation spine aligns and orders program spaces that include a fitness center, game room, snack bar and locker rooms on the interior and swim and tennis facilities outdoors. Infused with natural light, the interior corridor features framed views of the outdoors and ends in a quiet sitting area. On the exterior, pine-timber shade structures filter light and create a secondary circulation path to outdoor recreation and relaxation spaces.
