Gateway Village Technology Center
Charlotte, North Carolina
Gateway Village Technology Center revitalized the area west of Charlotte’s downtown corridor. The design’s centerpiece is the Technology Center, a complex of three office buildings with street-level shops and restaurants, and public walkways, gardens and courtyards. The public Promenade is the heart of the complex with a large, covered plaza. This central space also created a nucleus for the 24-hour operations of the technology and call-center workforce while becoming a desirable location for festivals, charity fund-raisers, and concerts.
The design successfully ignited a transformation that fulfilled the community’s vision for its future. The complex became a catalyst for additional office and apartment buildings and a major culinary institute nearby. Gateway Village remains as a vibrant and walkable Main Street that enhances community interaction and improves the quality of life for area residents.
