Democracy Tower

Reston, Virginia

A new building for the heart of the 80-acre world-renowned Reston Town Center required sensitivity to its neighbors, while adding much needed office space to Reston’s urban core. The resulting 9-story tower, which is perched atop an existing 8-level retail and garage complex, is one of the tallest buildings in the area with excellent visibility and panoramic views in all directions.

Democracy Tower’s northern facade, which faces Reston, reflects the material composition and patterning of neighboring masonry buildings, while the highly visible south side presents a gently bowed expanse of curtainwall with aluminum sunshades detailed to take advantage of the southern exposure. The property features street level retail spaces and a sky lobby. Democracy achieved LEED Gold and was the first LEED-certified office building in Reston Town Center. The project received a NAIOP Northern Virginia Award of Excellence.
